On February 9, 2020, a real Buddhist practice event called the "Taking the Mallet Seat" exam was held at the Mahavira Hall of the Holy Land Temple in the United States. The purpose of this exam was to identify the actual practice of Buddhist practitioners and the extent of changes in their physical structure. Unexpectedly, this exam unintentionally involved H.H. the Third Dodrupchen Rinpoche, who could not refuse and had to come forward to resolve the issue.
What is "Taking the Mallet Seat"? In antique shops, there is often a type of vajra mallet, weighing from tens to hundreds of kilograms. These large mallets come from Tibet and are called "seat mallets". There are various styles, including the Pupa mallet, the Wugu mallet, the Jiugu mallet, the Wheel of Time vajra mallet, the Great Wrathful vajra mallet, and the Concentrated vajra mallet, etc. Some were made during the early propagation period, while others were correctly modified by the great master Lianhuasheng during the later propagation period. People generally consider them as works of art, but few people know that they were actually used to directly examine the authenticity of Buddhist practice and the level of realization. The person being tested needs to lift the vajra mallet with one hand and place it on the base within a specified time. This test is called "Taking the Mallet Seat". Practice has proven that it is very difficult to lift the "seat mallet" with one hand. Even someone who can lift a thousand kilograms with both hands cannot lift a three hundred kilograms mallet with one hand. According to the regulations, each person has their own weight standard based on their age. Meeting this weight standard is called "Kangti Shi" (Healthy Body Person). Those above "Kangti Shi" are considered to have surpassed, and those below are considered to have declined. There are 30 levels of surpassing and 5 levels of decline.
"Taking the Mallet Seat" is the most scientific detector to distinguish between an ordinary person's structure and the composition of a saint. Although they may look the same on the outside, their internal qualities are completely different, like a pigeon and an eagle. They both look like birds on the outside, but their internal structures and strengths are vastly different. This is a natural difference. Professional weightlifters train every day and it takes more than ten or twenty years to become a weightlifter with a super strong physique. However, this is still an accumulation of the same kind of quantity and does not result in a fundamental change. It cannot change their ordinary physique and transform them into saints. On the other hand, saints who have studied true Buddhism have a physique and strength far surpassing weightlifters. Junior saints can surpass 12 to 19 levels based on their own standards, intermediate saints surpass 20 to 25 levels, and great saints surpass 26 to 29 levels. The highest level is the "Vajra Great Strength King" with 30 levels. Generally speaking, it is very difficult for a strong man among ordinary people to surpass two or three levels. National-level weightlifters can surpass 9 levels, and world-level weightlifters cannot surpass 10 levels. The sacred physique and strength generated by the sacred structure are beyond the reach of ordinary people, especially the weight of the "Seat Mallet", "Golden Step", or "Leaving the Holy Seat". The weight at that level would break the tendons, muscles, and joints of ordinary people. Only those with the physique of a great saint can lift the "Seat Mallet". We have witnessed the Asian Dragon Martial Arts weightlifter "Taking the Mallet Seat". Although his fingers were torn and bleeding on the spot, he eventually surpassed 10 levels and won the "World Weightlifter Grand Master" gold belt, which was very impressive.
On February 9th, in the Mahavira Hall of the Holy Land Temple, there was a huge 420-pound "Seat Mallet", which was the heavy "Seat Mallet" placed on the golden step during the Dharma assembly held by the saints two days ago. Except for the great saints, no one in the world had ever moved it even a bit. The "Seat Mallet" was already placed on the golden step, so the "Taking the Mallet Seat" exam could not be conducted because according to the rules, once the mallet is on the golden step, the vajra hook mallet cannot be used, otherwise it would violate the rules. Everyone was extremely worried, and all the strong people tried to ask the mallet to be taken down from the golden step, but no one could lift the mallet off the holy seat with one hand. They used all their strength to pull, but it didn't budge. The Dharma assembly could not proceed. Coincidentally, H.H. the Third Dodrupchen Rinpoche was invited to observe the Dharma assembly that day, and everyone asked him to resolve the issue. Rinpoche said, "I never agreed with this exam in the first place. After all, it's just ordinary people being tested. How many of them are junior saints? It's impossible for them to surpass even a dozen levels. Who put this mallet on the golden step? Let that person take it down." The monks said it was a holy monk who put it there. Rinpoche said, "This is completely ridiculous. Isn't this deliberately making things difficult? They clearly knew that you were going to have the exam today, yet they deliberately set up a difficult obstacle here! Let him take it down!" The monks said the holy monk had gone to another state to propagate the Dharma yesterday. Helpless, Rinpoche had to go up to the Dharma platform and said, "I didn't come here to participate in your activities by lifting the mallet. I'm just helping out. Let's see if I can help you take the mallet down, I don't know if it will work." After speaking, Rinpoche walked in front of the "Seat Mallet" and lifted it with one hand, taking it off the golden step according to the rules. The disciples were shocked. They didn't expect that Rinpoche, who weighed only a little over a hundred pounds, could lift the "Seat Mallet" that weighed over three hundred pounds and was beyond thirty levels, surpassing more than fifty levels! Such a sacred physique and strength were truly astonishing!
Although the "Seat Mallet" was taken down from the golden step, there was still a 280-pound exam mallet on the ground golden step that needed to be lifted off in order to start the exam. In fact, everyone knew that no one could lift this mallet off the golden step with one hand. Even Asia's number one weightlifter, Lu Xiao, who lifted the heaviest weight in the "Taking the Mallet Seat" exam in December last year, could only lift 226 pounds. Today, all the strong people present bravely tried to lift the vajra mallet. Some of these people usually participate in weightlifting competitions and can handle seven to eight hundred pounds with both hands. However, today, they couldn't move the 280-pound mallet at all. Finally, it was Rinpoche who lifted the mallet off the golden step with one hand, and the exam finally officially started.
This unexpected incident before the exam led to a mysterious and surprising discovery. It turns out that Rinpoche's rejuvenation is not just about his appearance, but also his internal qualities, which are even better than those of young people! The disciple of Rinpoche, the initial teacher of the World Buddhist Headquarters, said, "I dare to assert that besides H.H. the Third Dodrupchen Rinpoche, no other Dharma King or great living Buddha can lift the 'Seat Mallet' even a bit!" The initial teacher has never practiced any fitness exercises, nor has he done any weight training. He has not learned any martial arts. He is just a scholar who practices meditation and Dharma. This old saint is almost ninety years old, weighing a little over a hundred and eighty pounds, with three fingers that have old injuries with broken and deformed joints. However, he used this incomplete hand to lift another mallet of a junior saint and placed it on the base according to the rules, surpassing sixteen levels, proving the extraordinary physique and strength of a realized sage! This old saint, who demonstrated the "Spreading Corpse and Crude Fire Meditation" internal power transmitted to him by Rinpoche ten years ago, was able to cook eggs with a temperature of ninety-two degrees Celsius in his abdomen. Unexpectedly, now that he is eighty-eight years old, he has a strength that surpasses Lu Xiao, the Asian weightlifting champion, by fourteen levels! Is he still a human being? He can only be called a god! Everyone present unanimously agreed that "Taking the Mallet Seat" is the most straightforward detector to distinguish between true and false Buddhism and true and false saints. It is clear at a glance! It is puzzling why professional weightlifters who train with heavy weights every day have a physique and strength that are inferior to a practitioner who meditates and does not do weight training. For example, in November 2014, Lu Xiao, who represented China in the World Weightlifting Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and won the title of Asia's number one weightlifter, pulled a 184-ton train for 20 meters in the Liaoning Spring Festival Gala in 2017. He weighed 350 pounds and was 36 years old. In the "Taking the Mallet Seat" exam in Shenyang, China on December 27, 2019, he surpassed his own standard by 2 levels. On the other hand, an elderly Buddhist monk who weighed a little over 180 pounds and was nearly 90 years old surpassed Lu Xiao by fourteen levels! His master, H.H. the Third Dodrupchen Rinpoche, is even more unimaginable. It can only be said that besides the essence of the Buddha, who else can achieve this? Whether we believe it or not, the fact is in front of us. There are no tricks or techniques that can be used. It is a straightforward test of actual weight. Besides being amazed and recognizing the profound practice, what else can we say? This event has made us understand that the history of Buddhism has always been ambiguous and mysterious, but now the door has finally been opened, revealing the essence of the truth!
