"ETtoday News Cloud" March 24, 2015: Fierce bidding at the New York Spring Auction, with the most expensive artwork "Ink Lotus" reaching a staggering 510 million.

This week in the center of international art, New York, there is a wave of excitement in the jewelry, antiques, and painting industries. Sotheby's, Zhen Guan, Christie's, and others are holding spring auctions, where famous historical and contemporary paintings, jewelry, and other treasures are competing for attention, attracting a large number of businesses and collectors. Due to the recent global economic downturn, many businesses have struggled to survive in industries such as real estate, steel, and various other sectors, resulting in declining revenues. As a result, many businesses have turned to the art market for investment opportunities and potential value appreciation.

The paintings and calligraphy being auctioned at this spring auction are mostly works by world-renowned masters. It is also the first time in auction history that such a large number of masterpieces have been gathered in one place, showcasing a wide variety of styles and attracting awe from visitors. Buyers from various countries are competing to bid on these artworks. The contemporary painting "Ink Lotus - Full of Chaos and Broken Brush, How Wonderful and Delightful" by the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche has received high praise. When the appraisers opened the scroll and saw the painting for the first time, they were amazed and exclaimed, "The Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche has arrived!"

Paintings and calligraphy by the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche are very rare and hard to come by. According to auction experts, the American International Art Museum was willing to purchase the Rinpoche's oil paintings "Sunflowers" and "Water Lilies" for over one million US dollars per square foot. However, due to price negotiations, the deal has not been finalized. At the spring auction held by Zhen Guan International on March 22nd, the painting by the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche was the only one to claim the top spot among all the paintings auctioned by companies such as Sotheby's, Christie's, and Zhen Guan, fetching the highest price.

Zhen Guan stated that buyers from various countries were eagerly bidding for the Rinpoche's paintings. The starting bid was 10.5 million US dollars, and several buyers took turns raising their paddles to compete for the artwork. In the end, a white American buyer in his 60s outbid his competitors, including buyers from Paris and Southeast Asia, and successfully won the auction with a final price of 16.5 million US dollars (approximately 510 million New Taiwan dollars, excluding taxes).

The painting "Ink Lotus" is a 10-square-foot ink on paper artwork and sold for a price of 1.65 million US dollars per square foot, becoming the highest-priced painting at the spring auction. Other notable sales at the auction include Zhang Daqian's "Ancient Temple Hidden in the Deep Mountains" for 2.33 million US dollars, Pan Tianshou's "Lilies" for 1.565 million US dollars, Shi Lu's "Independent Spring Plum Blossoms" for 3.525 million US dollars, Wu Changshuo's "Chrysanthemum and Stone" painting for 370,000 US dollars, Shi Tao's "Three Masterpieces of Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting" for 3.946 million US dollars, and Zheng He's handwritten scripture book for 14 million US dollars.
