Limited edition "Third World Dajieqiang Buddha Day" commemorative envelope, recently limited release in Hong Kong, due to the global limited edition of 2000 sets of commemorative envelopes, Hong Kong only obtained 100 sets (each set for HKD 120), attracting a large number of philatelists and collectors, who lined up for hours outside the exclusive sale at the Sen Post Collection Mong Kok store.
The "Third World Dajieqiang Buddha Day" commemorative envelope officially went on sale at 3:00 pm that day and sold out in less than 10 minutes. Sen Post Collection also specially reserved 5 sets of precious special numbered first day covers for online auctions, for charitable purposes, and after deducting the reserve price, all proceeds will be donated to "Doctors Without Borders".
The total amount raised from this charity event is HKD 22,650, with the highest bidder paying HKD 5,600 for the special numbered cover 1618, which is 47 times higher than the base price of HKD 120. Wang Sanhong, spokesperson for Hong Kong Sen Post Collection, said that due to the small quantity of the "Third World Dajieqiang Buddha Day" commemorative envelope and the fact that it is the first commemorative envelope issued in the name of Buddha in the history of the United States Postal Service, the 100 first day covers distributed in Hong Kong this time are even more significant.
He mentioned that the mayor of Washington, D.C., announced on January 19th of last year that January 19th, 2011 would be designated as "Third World Dajieqiang Buddha Day", so the limited edition commemorative first day cover was issued to celebrate the one-year anniversary of "Third World Dajieqiang Buddha Day".
