"Today's News" February 2, 2010: "Mountain Spring Ancient Village" Auction Breaks the Highest Record in the Chinese Painting Market Price

Explanation of the "Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" Buddha Name#

On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House held a solemn and grand launching ceremony at the Library of Congress in the United States. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and it was then that people learned that the highly respected Master Yiyun Gao and the Grand Master Yangyi Yixi Nuo Bu, who had always been respected by everyone, were recognized by the leaders or regents of the major Buddhist sects in the world as the third incarnation of the Buddha Dorje Chang, with the Buddha name being the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha. Since then, people have referred to him as "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha." This is similar to before Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, his name was Prince Siddhartha, but after Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, he was called "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha." Therefore, we now call him "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha." Especially on December 12, 2012, the United States Senate Resolution No. 614 officially named the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha as His Holiness (H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha), and since then, the title of Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha has been officially established. Moreover, the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha is also the legally recognized name by the government, and the previous titles of "Yiyun Gao" and the Grand Master and the Grand Master of the Dharma Protector no longer exist. However, this news was published before the announcement of the Buddha name of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, and at that time people did not yet know the true identity of the Buddha, so in order to respect the truth of history, we still retain the names used before the official naming of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha in the news. However, everyone should be clear that except for the name of H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, which is legal, the names used before the official naming no longer exist.

The art auction held by the Master Yiyun Gao International Cultural Foundation on January 31 featured a painting donated by the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha titled "Shanquan Ancient Village." The painting measures only 5.6 square inches, approximately one-fourth the size of a palm. At the beginning, there were 47 bidders, and it was sold for $35,100, equivalent to $902,571.42 per square foot, breaking the record for the highest price in the Chinese painting market among historical and contemporary figures worldwide. Dr. Yuhua, the mother of the foundation, donated the lotus painting "Lotus Fun" which measures 2.3 square feet of Chinese painting, and it was sold for $51,000, equivalent to $21,782.6 per square foot.

On January 31, the Master Yiyun Gao International Cultural Foundation hosted the "Mother Yuhua Dr. National Treasure-level Art Exhibition and Small Art Auction" at the five-star St. Gabriel Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, USA. The organizers used the auction of "Lotus Fun" and "Shanquan Ancient Village" as part of the annual member gathering of the foundation and as a fundraising event for the Haiti earthquake. The auction attracted a large crowd, and many government officials who came to present awards and commend Dr. Yuhua's artistic achievements witnessed the scene of the auction. A notary public was present at the auction.

Dr. Yuhua's works have been exhibited in a special album by the Congress, and the Congress recorded that "no one can compare to the lotus in Chinese art history." Hand-carved and painted coral and pebbles have become "the world's wealth." The painting "Lotus Fun" donated by Dr. Yuhua, with lotus as the main theme, has become extremely popular.

The market price of the painter's paintings is calculated per square foot. The painting "Lotus Fun" measures 2.3 square feet, with a starting price of $10,000. As soon as the bidding started, 40 buyers entered the competition, and many buyers continued to raise the price. It was finally sold for $50,100, equivalent to $21,782.6 per square foot.

"Shanquan Ancient Village" is a miniature painting by the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, donated to the organizers for auction. After seeing this painting, an artist expressed his thoughts, "Although the painting 'Shanquan Ancient Village' is very small, only one-fourth the size of a palm, it depicts clouds and mist, towering mountains, truly achieving the magnificent scenery of 'the inch can hold thousands of mountains.' This is not just a simple ink composition, but a vivid depiction of the vibrant mountains and rivers with strong vitality!"

The Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha is a master who has set the highest price in the history of Chinese painting in the world. In 2000, the painting titled "Wei Zhen" with the words "Yun Gao" and the theme of lion groups was sold for over $2.12 million at an international art auction. The painting "Great Power King" was sold for 72 million New Taiwan dollars (over $2.2 million). In 2007, the International Buddhist Monks and Nuns Association publicly sold the lotus painting titled "Yun Gao" in San Francisco, with a price of $300,000 per square foot.

The painting titled "Yun Gao Yixi Nuobu" with the holy title of the Grand Master was sold for $540,000 per square foot. The paintings circulated in the art market by the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha in the past were all large-sized works. This is the first time a miniature painting has been auctioned and has attracted great attention. "Shanquan Ancient Village" is titled "Third Generation Dorje Chang" and has fingerprints and watermarks. The auction started with a bid of $8,000, and buyers went crazy with bidding. It was finally sold for $35,100, breaking the record for the highest price per square foot in the Chinese painting market among historical and contemporary figures, reaching $902,571.42.

There are many people in the world who specialize in collecting paintings by the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha (commonly known as Master Yiyun Gao). Wang Guoxing, ranked seventh among China's top ten painters, has collected dozens of paintings by Master Yiyun Gao. According to Chinese painters' appraisals, many of them are fake paintings with genuine seals. In recent years, there have been many fake paintings by Master Yiyun Gao in society. The reason is that the seals and stone carvings used by Master Yun Gao in the early days have been collected by various people in society through various means, so there are cases of fake paintings with genuine seals, which can easily deceive people.

Now that Master Yiyun Gao has been discovered by the high monks and great virtuous ones in the world, it has been made public that he is the true Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha. Therefore, the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha now uses fingerprint seals in his works. As long as it is his authentic work, it will have his fingerprint seal, and no one can fake it. What's more important is that all the paintings by the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha have computer archives for verification. People who want to buy paintings must first have them appraised by the Calligraphy and Painting Appraisal Committee jointly established by the United States Advanced Art Museum, the International World Buddhist Headquarters, and the International Buddhist Monks and Nuns Association to avoid being deceived into buying fake paintings. As long as there is the fingerprint seal of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha and the authentic work with computer archives, there is a great potential for appreciation.

Based on the price of $66,250 per square foot for the "Wei Zhen" painting in 2000, the current market price after ten years is $902,571 per square foot, an increase of 13.6 times. Due to the public announcement of the identity of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, this Buddha has no time to paint. Therefore, each painting is infinitely precious and priceless. It can be imagined that in another ten years, the paintings of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha will increase by many times, with an appreciation potential of at least tens of times higher than the skyrocketing of the previous decade. It is no wonder that so many people are crazy about bidding.

The organizers stated that this exhibition showcased ten lotus paintings and landscape paintings by Dr. Yuhua, as well as two world-class perfect works of art, hand-carved and painted coral "Dragon Palace Treasure - King" and "Dragon Palace Treasure - White Jade Treasure" (matching flower vases - red embroidery), all of which were borrowed from the United States Advanced Art Museum. Among them, the two hand-carved and painted coral pieces made their first public appearance. When many people saw "Dragon Palace Treasure - King," their first impression was "How is this possible!" There is such a huge king of coral in the world, which cannot be found in the entire ocean. It is named "Dragon Palace Treasure - King" and is well-deserved. "Dragon Palace Treasure - White Jade Treasure" presents the spiritual beauty of natural noble pink and white jade. It can be described as ingeniously crafted and astonishing. Although the entire coral of the white jade treasure appears white, it has many layers of changes within the white. The natural beauty of the coral is truly incomparable. The most important thing is to give people a sense of comfort and enjoyment of beauty.

An art critic said, "This is not coral in the sea, but a work of art that is created from scratch, using special materials, hand-carved, oil-painted, and polished. The color layers are very rich, with a jade-like luster, pure texture, not only indistinguishable from the real thing, but also more ancient, elegant, and beautiful. It can be seen that Dr. Yuhua's painting skills are very outstanding. This requires profound knowledge, talent, and not just talent and knowledge. It also requires a high degree of concentration, otherwise the inherent spirituality cannot be depicted. These Chinese paintings and sculptures are truly the pinnacle of the world's art!" The exhibition showcased Chinese master's lotus paintings and landscape paintings, highlighting the vivid and skillful brushwork, lively ink colors, and the absence of any mechanical quality in Dr. Yuhua's lotus paintings. The Congress recorded that her lotus paintings are unparalleled in Chinese art history, and it is indeed well-deserved.

According to people from the United States Advanced Art Museum, the coral "King" and "White Jade Treasure" are each worth about $7 million to $9 million. However, these two works have been donated to the public non-profit organization, the Superb Art Museum of America, so they are not for sale.

The exhibition was attended by many dignitaries who presented congratulatory certificates or commendation certificates, including Congresswoman Diana Watson, Congressman Sherwin Tanda, Congresswoman Zhao Meixin, California Assemblyman Wu Guoqing, Kete Hegman, Chen Wen, California Treasurer, and five mayors of Los Angeles County, Mayor of Pomona, Mayor of Hacienda Heights, Deputy Mayor of Alhambra, Mayor of Monterey Park, Mayor of South Pasadena, Mayor of Redondo Beach, and the Chief of the Los Angeles County Police Department. The exhibition attracted waves of visitors and created an unprecedented scene.
