Explanation of the Title "Third Dijie Qiang Buddha"#
On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third Dijie Qiang Buddha" published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House held a solemn and grand launching ceremony at the Library of Congress in the United States. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and it was then that people came to know that the highly respected Master Yi Yun Gao and Yang E Yi Xi Nuobu Dawa Wang, who had always been respected by everyone, were recognized by the leaders or regents of the major Buddhist sects and certified by the living Buddhas. He is the third incarnation of the Buddha Dijie Qiang Buddha, and his title is the Third Dijie Qiang Buddha. Since then, people have been calling him "Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha". This is similar to the fact that before Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, his name was Siddhartha Gautama, but after Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, he was called "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha". Therefore, we now call him "Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha". Especially on December 12, 2012, the United States Senate Resolution No. 614 officially named the Third Dijie Qiang Buddha as His Holiness (H.H. Third Dijie Qiang Buddha). Since then, the title of Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha has been officially established. Moreover, the name Third Dijie Qiang Buddha is also the legal name recognized by the government, and the previous titles of "Yi Yun Gao" and the Great Master and Dawa Wang are no longer in use. However, this news was published before the official announcement of the title Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha, at that time people did not yet know the true identity of the Buddha, so in order to respect the truth of history, we still retain the names used before the official recognition of the title in the news. But everyone should be clear that except for the name His Holiness Third Dijie Qiang Buddha, which is legal, the previous names no longer exist.
Glossary: The Status of Dijie Qiang Buddha#
Who is Dijie Qiang Buddha? Is there a lineage? The International Buddhist Sangha explains:
In our world, if we divide Buddhism according to the size of cultivation and achievement, it can be divided into Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. If we divide it according to the sects of Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism is divided into twelve major sects, including Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gelug, and Jonang, as well as many sub-sects. Buddhism also has Tangmi, Dongmi, Xianzong, Chan, Pure Land, Vinaya, and many other sects. However, whether it is Hinayana, Mahayana, Vajrayana, or these sects, they all accept the lineage of Dijie Qiang Buddha. Dijie Qiang Buddha is the true and tangible first ancestor of all Buddhism in the Dharma Realm. Without Dijie Qiang Buddha, there would be no Buddhism, no Dharma, no Buddhist studies, no Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, no Dharma Kings, no Rinpoche, no Dharma Masters, no Buddhists, only the concept of the true nature of the universe, which is the concept of the Adharma Buddha, Samantabhadra. The Adharma Buddha has no form, cannot be described in words, and the mind is extinguished. There is no one to teach the Dharma, so it is called Buddha-nature, not Buddhism. Therefore, the Adharma Buddha Samantabhadra established Buddhism in the Dharma Realm and propagated it in the Three Realms. Dijie Qiang Buddha has appeared in this world twice. The first incarnation was the second Dijie Qiang Buddha, Vimalakirti. The second incarnation was the third Dijie Qiang Buddha, Yun Gao Yi Xi Nuobu. In the entire Buddhism, whether it is Vajrayana or Mahayana, the original masters of all Buddhist sects are Dijie Qiang Buddha. All Buddhist teachings are transmitted from Dijie Qiang Buddha, because Dijie Qiang Buddha is the only founder of Buddhism. Dijie Qiang Buddha has also appeared in the forms of the Ancient Lamp Buddha and the Vajrasattva. The Ancient Lamp Buddha taught Buddhism to Shakyamuni Buddha, and then Shakyamuni Buddha taught the Dharma in the Sahā World. However, the source of the Dharma is all from Dijie Qiang Buddha, and you can roughly understand it by referring to the numbers in the text for the corresponding lineage and refuge. Therefore, the three original Buddhas in the Dharma Realm are called the Dharma Body Buddha Samantabhadra (Adharma Buddha), the Sambhogakaya Buddha Dijie Qiang Buddha (Vajrasattva), and the Nirmanakaya Buddha Vajrasattva.
For more than two thousand years, the mutual integration and derivation between different sects, the transmission and learning of the patriarchs, have made the transmission system of the entire Buddhism extremely vast and complex, which cannot be described clearly in a few pages. Due to space limitations, it is not possible to list all Buddhist sects, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and great patriarchs here, only a few are listed as representatives. Even so, the lineage system is correct and unbiased.
