Explanation of the "Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" Buddhist Name#
On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House held a solemn and grand launch ceremony at the Library of Congress in the United States. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and it was then that people learned that the highly respected Master Yi Yun Gao, Yang Yi Yixi Nobu Dafang Wang, was recognized by the leaders or regents of the major Buddhist sects and the great living Buddhas of the world's Buddhism. He is the third generation incarnation of the Buddha Dorje Chang, and his Buddhist name is the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha. Since then, people have been calling him "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha". This is similar to before Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, his name was Prince Siddhartha, but after Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, he was called "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha". Therefore, we now call him "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha". Especially on December 12, 2012, the United States Senate Resolution No. 614 officially named the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha as His Holiness (H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha). Since then, the title of Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha has been officially established. Moreover, the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha is also the legal name recognized by the government, and the previous names of "Yi Yun Gao" and the honorable titles of Master and Supreme Dharma King no longer exist. However, this news was published before the Buddhist name of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha was announced, and at that time people did not yet know the true identity of the Buddha. Therefore, in order to respect the truth of history, we still retain the names used before the official naming of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha in the news. But everyone should be clear that except for the name of H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, which is legal, the names used before the official naming no longer exist.
Hollywood City Honors Citizen and City Key Recognizes Yi Yun Gao's Artistic Achievements#
[Taipei News] The international master of art, Yi Yun Gao, who shocked the world art scene with his sculpting technique that surpasses natural perfection, once again amazed the United States with his lantern and video appreciation event on March 8. This event was attended by members of the U.S. Congress, California legislators, Los Angeles County government, Hollywood City government, and the American Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Association. They all presented appreciation awards and praised Master Yi Yun Gao's achievements in art, philosophy, and science.
To recognize Master Yi Yun Gao's comprehensive achievements, on March 8, 2000, the California State Government announced it as Yi Yun Gao Master Day. The Yi Yun Gao International Cultural Foundation in the United States held a lantern and video appreciation event for Master Yi Yun Gao's sculpting works, attracting art and culture enthusiasts from Taiwan, mainland China, Northern California, Central California, and Southern California to attend. The venue was packed. Dozens of Buddhist monks, Christians, and Catholics gathered together to attend this art appreciation event, which was particularly noteworthy.
At the beginning of the appreciation event, Congressman Adam B. Schiff presented the Art, Philosophy, and Science Achievement Award to Master Yi Yun Gao, and Deputy Mayor Steve Martin of Hollywood City presented the Honorary Citizen Certificate and Ambassador-level City Key to Master Yi. Senator Gloria Romero presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Master Yi Yun Gao, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich presented the Art, Philosophy, and Science Achievement Award to Master Yi Yun Gao, which was accepted by the President of the Foundation, Zhang Tianyou, on behalf of Master Yi. Master Yi himself did not attend the award ceremony.
Because Master Yi Yun Gao's works sculpt nature and the artistic conception surpasses nature, each piece is photographed from different angles, presenting different colors, structures, and artistic conceptions. It seems to bring people into the natural scenery of real mountains and waters, winning continuous praise from everyone. It is unbelievable that human artistic achievements can surpass this level.
Venerable Kui Zhi, the abbot of Jue Hai Monastery in Tainan, Taiwan, analyzed Yun Gao's sculptures from the perspective of Buddhist teachings. The reason why they are called "rhyme sculptures" is because the master innovatively uses the technique of "all phenomena are devoid of self" to carve artistic masterpieces that are both form and emptiness, highlighting the beauty of the non-dualistic nature of body and mind. This is the highest level of Buddhism, a perfect achievement of skillful means, and has completed the unfinished achievement of skillful means in the human world since the time of the Buddha and the great master Lianhua Sheng. Therefore, it has made the greatest contribution to humanity.
Venerable Kui Zhi analyzed the process of Yun Gao's artistic practice, and in the realm of selflessness, there was no bondage of self-consciousness at all. The perfect network structure and sense of space in the works complement each other. It has achieved the artistic realm and Buddhist realm of "form is emptiness, emptiness is form", leading to strong artistic charm and a sense of shock for the viewers. He emphasized that one should not casually overlook the shock that each work brings to people with the attitude of appreciating ordinary movies, but should deeply ponder the information revealed behind the works and the inspiration they give.
Yang Longsheng, the president of the American Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, who was born in Singapore, said that he came from a sculpting background and traveled throughout China during the war, as well as Australia, Europe, and various parts of Asia, appreciating art works from around the world. He carefully observed Master Yun Gao's sculptures and photos of his works, shaking his head in admiration and saying that he is already 88 years old this year but feels inferior to Master Yi. He believes that Master Yi's artistic achievements are entirely derived from the power of the master's "artistic virtue that touches people's hearts".
Yang Huasha, a member of the Montel Park City Art Committee, expressed in her speech after the appreciation that she has been in contact with the American cultural and artistic circles for 33 years and has never seen such exquisite and unparalleled works of art like Master Yi's. She hopes that people across the United States will have the opportunity to appreciate Master Yi's sculptures.
In order to further introduce Master Yi Yun Gao's achievements in Buddhism, the Yi Yun Gao International Cultural Foundation, in response to the audience's request, will hold a seminar on listening to Master Yi Yun Gao's Buddhist teachings and recording audio tapes on March 15 (Saturday) at 7:30 pm at the foundation's address (707 W. Valley Blvd, #22, Alhambra, CA 91803, entering from the parking lot behind the California International Bank). Friends who are interested in Buddhism are welcome to attend the lecture.
