International Daily, June 18, 2004: Analyzing the Various Sacred Phenomena of the Victory Bath Buddha Ceremony

Explanation of the "Third World Dorje Chang Buddha" Title#

On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third World Dorje Chang Buddha" was solemnly launched at the Library of Congress in the United States, published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and from then on, people learned that the highly respected Master Yiyun Gao and the great Dharma King Yang Er Yixi Nuo Bu were certified by the leaders or regents of major Buddhist sects around the world as the third incarnation of the primordial Buddha Dorje Chang Buddha, with the title of the Third World Dorje Chang Buddha. From then on, people began to refer to him as "Namo Third World Dorje Chang Buddha." This is similar to how Siddhartha Gautama was known as Prince Siddhartha before attaining Buddhahood, but after becoming the Buddha, he was referred to as "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha." Therefore, we now say "Namo Third World Dorje Chang Buddha." Notably, on December 12, 2012, the U.S. Senate Resolution No. 614 officially conferred the title His Holiness upon the Third World Dorje Chang Buddha (i.e., H.H. Third World Dorje Chang Buddha), thus solidifying the title of Namo Third World Dorje Chang Buddha. Moreover, the Third World Dorje Chang Buddha is also the government-registered name, and the previous titles of "Yiyun Gao" and Master, Great Holder Dharma King no longer exist. However, this news was published before the title of Namo Third World Dorje Chang Buddha was announced, at a time when people did not yet understand the true identity of the Buddha. Therefore, to respect the historical truth, we still retain the name used before the official title of the Third World Dorje Chang Buddha in the news, but everyone should be clear that except for the name H.H. Third World Dorje Chang Buddha, the previous names no longer exist.

Analysis of Various Sacred Phenomena at the Victory Bath Buddha Dharma Assembly#

Reprinted from International Daily, June 18, 2004

Recently, many newspapers reported on the "Victory Bath Buddha Dharma Assembly" held on May 26, Buddha's Birthday, presided over by the Great Dharma King Yang Er Yixi Nuo Bu in Los Angeles. I was fortunate to personally witness the various sacred phenomena at the assembly, and even now, recalling it still excites me. Many feelings and thoughts surged within me, and the more I think about it, the more incredible it seems, prompting me to make a detailed analysis.

Like Wind and Thunder, Silent Yet Different for All#

Without going into detail about the sacred phenomenon of "Tree Empty Flower Rain" at the assembly, as the assembly began, flowers fell like rain for three hours, continuously flying, and at the end of the assembly, the flying flowers suddenly vanished; without elaborating on the wondrous scene of "Cloud as Canopy," where a six-foot-wide Dharma platform was only covered by clouds over a two-foot area where the Buddha's bronze statue stood; without detailing the auspicious signs of "Wind Celebrating Altar City" and the miraculous "Dharma Water Collecting Color," let me first mention the "Heavenly Dragons Rejoicing." At that time, under the blazing sun, with clear skies and no clouds, suddenly, thunder roared from above, who could understand this? Two-thirds of the attendees heard the rolling dragon's roar and the thunderclaps in the Dharma venue, yet strangely, one-third of those present did not hear the deafening thunder, only the sound of the wind. Thunder in America cannot be heard in Taiwan, and thunder in Los Angeles cannot be heard in San Francisco; even in the same Los Angeles, thunder in Monterey Park may not be heard in Arcadia. Yet, within just a few dozen meters, surrounded by a blue curtain on the same lawn, the thunder roared above, and everyone was quietly listening, but more than half of the people heard it clearly, while a small portion heard nothing at all. This is the extraordinary power of the Buddha Dharma.

The Protection of Dharma on Site, Unworldly Phenomena#

When the "Dharma Instruments Manifested the Sacred," I was fortunate to see two protectors standing on the Vajra Wheel. The photos taken on site captured the two protectors appearing and disappearing in the same frame, then vanishing and reappearing, constantly changing their forms. High-tech image processing systems can create wonders, but this was witnessed by everyone present, and individual perceptions varied, so no technology can replace the eyes of those watching together. Moreover, the Vajra Wheel transformed into a lotus leaf in the video. I did not see the Vajra Wheel glowing on site; I only saw it floating and sinking in the water, but in the video, when the Vajra Wheel sank close to the bottom, a red light suddenly emanated from beneath it, and everyone watched as the Vajra Wheel moved. At the same time, in the same space, some people saw eight protectors standing on the Vajra Wheel, while others saw two protectors. Those who saw eight protectors claimed there were never two, while those who saw two insisted there were never eight. I was only about four feet away from the Vajra Wheel; I saw the two protectors change in size but did not see one, yet a photo I took showed one protector. Some people saw nothing but the moving Vajra Wheel. Regardless of the angle of analysis, the appearance of protectors on site, witnessed by everyone, is an undeniable fact that proves the real manifestation of the Buddha Dharma, with no reason to distort its true existence.

In the world, things either exist or do not; they either are or are not. This binary opposition means that things can only occupy one state, not both. There is nothing that is both existent and non-existent, both real and unreal, both eight and two at the same time; such logical paradoxes do not hold in the human realm. However, the miraculous phenomena of "Heavenly Dragons Rejoicing" and "Dharma Instruments Manifesting the Sacred" that occurred at the assembly precisely created such paradoxes. What does this paradox indicate? It can only lead us to one conclusion: this is definitely not a worldly phenomenon. Yet it is undeniably real, occurring right before our eyes; it is simply a reality that cannot be understood by human logic or scientific concepts, but rather the power of the Buddha Dharma beyond human cognitive abilities, a true miracle of the Buddha Dharma manifested in the world. It can only be described in four words: "Inconceivable!"

Dharma Instruments Instantly Turn to Ice, Living Buddha's Chest Mark Emits White Light#

Furthermore, there was the 280-pound living Buddha who received a prophecy. At the snap of the Great Dharma King's fingers, he was burned by the true fire of samadhi emitted from the Vajra Wheel, screaming in pain, his face turning pale, like Sun Wukong under the tight headband, yet instantly restored to his original state at the snap of the Great Dharma King's fingers. The Vajra Wheel mark on the living Buddha's chest has now indeed grown into a three-dimensional Dharma instrument. Besides the three-dimensional pattern of the Dharma instrument itself, mysteriously, a white halo like a flashlight emanated from around the Dharma instrument. I witnessed this. According to the Fat Rinpoche, the Great Holder Dharma King's prophecy stated that this halo would retract and disappear after seven days, but the Dharma instrument would remain, eventually becoming as tender as a baby's skin. Imagine, on a perfectly smooth chest, a Vajra Wheel of ordinary temperature placed the size of a palm; this is merely a simple physical touch, as simple as touching left hand to right hand, and aside from feeling each other's temperature, neither would have any qualitative impact on the other. Yet how did this Vajra Wheel suddenly increase in temperature at the snap of the Great Dharma King's fingers, leaving a permanent mark on the living Buddha's chest? Moreover, the mark changes shape daily, now growing into a three-dimensional Dharma instrument. Who can fathom this? The Fat Living Buddha later said, "I really didn't expect that such a small Vajra Wheel, placed on my chest and feeling cool, would suddenly become incredibly hot at the Great Holder Dharma King's snap of the fingers, to the point of almost taking my life. I could hardly bear it, which is why I cried out. But when the Great Dharma King snapped his fingers again, how could it have no heat at all? I felt no pain. It's incredible; I've never seen such a powerful Dharma instrument." I want to say, it's not that the Vajra Wheel is powerful, but rather the greatness of the Great Dharma King's Buddha Dharma. Without the display of that power at the snap of his fingers, the Vajra Wheel itself could never reach such high temperatures in an instant, let alone instantly turn to ice.

Certifying Water, Ordinary People Cannot Achieve#

The most shocking was the "Certifying Water." Before the assembly concluded, we scooped all the Dharma water from the lotus pool, lifted the lotus pool, and retrieved many documents laid on the yellow satin beneath the pool. From the beginning to the end of the assembly, all documents were tightly pressed under the lotus pool on the yellow satin, and could only be retrieved at the end of the assembly. Just an empty lotus pool weighed over 700 pounds, and even with four people, including myself, we could not move it. Not to mention that during the assembly, 90 barrels of fragrant Dharma water were added, totaling 4,260 pounds; who could move it? Fourteen strong men struggled to lift it, their features contorted, yet it was as futile as ants trying to lift a piano—the lotus pool did not budge. When Akona Mo Rinpoche and the venerable Tsering Jiao Cuo ascended the stage, a young female living Buddha and an elderly man in his seventies, the 4,260-pound lotus pool suddenly rose, and the Dharma water poured into the bathing pool like silver columns. The astonishment and shock in my heart can be imagined. This is not merely a matter of strength; 90 barrels of water, each weighing 40 pounds, is an unchangeable weight. Adding the lotus pool's weight totals over 4,260 pounds, human strength cannot compete. Even if shared between two people, averaging over 2,100 pounds each, it far exceeds the human limit for weight-bearing. Scientific evidence shows that the strongest person can only lift 1,500 pounds before their arms will be torn apart. Therefore, such weight is beyond human capability. So how did they lift the lotus pool to draw water? We can only explain it as the accomplishment of the Buddha Dharma! This is not something ordinary people can achieve; it requires a high level of Buddhist realization. Akona Mo Rinpoche comes from Tibet, able to make the Mani stone fly, while Tsering Jiao Cuo has realized the emptiness of prajna, dwelling in the nature of Dharma. It is precisely because both are highly realized great beings that they could accomplish this "Certifying Water," which is beyond human ability. Some asked me: Could it be that the two great beings knew in advance that the lotus pool had some special mechanism? Good question. The lotus pool is now enshrined in the United States, collected by the United Nations International Buddhist Headquarters, currently housed at the Huazang Temple in San Francisco. A quick inspection reveals that the lotus pool has no hidden mechanisms. During the assembly, the lotus pool was publicly placed in the central grassy area of the altar, with a yellow satin larger than the lotus pool laid on the grass. If some lifting mechanism had raised the lotus pool from beneath the grass, wouldn't everyone have noticed the yellow satin and numerous thin documents being damaged or pushed out during the assembly when we lifted the lotus pool to retrieve the documents? In fact, both the yellow satin and documents remained intact. Moreover, at that time, everyone removed the yellow satin, revealing a completely flat grassy area. At the end of the assembly, we dismantled the Dharma platform and curtains, and the lotus pool was moved to another location, with the grassy area remaining perfectly flat. This lotus pool was constructed by many monks on site. The next day, a group of high rinpoches from outside the altar was invited, including a rinpoche named Rob, who humbly claimed to be an ordinary person, unwilling to reveal himself under a bamboo hat. He had everyone place the empty lotus pool where they wanted, added 90 barrels of water again, and I personally witnessed him step forward, demonstrating the power of the Buddha Dharma, lifting the 4,260-pound lotus pool alone to pour water into the bathing pool as part of a ritual for protecting the Dharma. Witnessing this, I was left speechless, only able to stare in amazement. We personally moved the lotus pool to another location, a small grassy area we chose, placing the bathing pool in the center, with six to ten meters of open space all around. Everyone could see clearly; what more is there to say? It can only prove that the power of true Buddha Dharma is so real and magnificent.

Life and Death Freedom Reveals True Dharma#

These various miraculous phenomena thoroughly demonstrate the true existence of Buddhism beyond worldly energy, indicating that the Dharma lineage transmitted by the Great Dharma King Yang Er Yixi Nuo Bu aligns with the extraordinary supernatural states often mentioned in the Tripitaka, proving that the miraculous powers described in the scriptures, where the Buddha and his disciples often performed miraculous feats, are real and not false. Not only do the seven sacred phenomena at the Bath Buddha Assembly illustrate the true existence of the Buddha Dharma, but the ultimate purpose of the Buddha Dharma is to liberate life and death. This issue is precisely illustrated by the old lay practitioner Wang Cheng E Fen, who relied on the Great Dharma King to study and practice the Dharma, achieving great accomplishments in mainland China. After passing away, many witnessed the Buddhas appearing with radiant light, and after cremation, he broke the record for the highest achievement at the site of the relics of Emperor Ashoka—the Baoguang Zen Institute, one of China's four major monasteries—finding colorful relics and rare relic flowers of white jade and earth yellow. Achieving one Wang Cheng E Fen may be coincidental, but the miraculous thing is that E Fen's husband, Wang Ling Ze, also practiced the Dharma under the Great Dharma King, never discussing Buddhism throughout his life. Suddenly, on the afternoon of the 15th day of the second lunar month in 1992, he publicly encouraged people to do good while lifting a stool on the street in Xin Du Labor Village, speaking of the merits of Pure Land and praising the Great Dharma King's teachings as the true Buddha Dharma of the Shakyamuni system. Someone asked, "I like the Avalokiteshvara Dharma, but what is the best?" Old Lay Practitioner Wang replied, "Whether he is a great Dharma master or a great living Buddha, you must be especially careful and never learn false Buddha Dharma. For example, the Pure Land of Avalokiteshvara has great certifying power. Let's look back: how is your guru? If he has no ability to certify water and transmit the Dharma, and his conduct is poor, then that is merely popular teachings from books. It is better to chant Namo Avalokiteshvara's merits. True Avalokiteshvara Dharma does not certify water through literature but through power. To certify water, two or one person must lift four or five thousand pounds of bathing pool water to pour it out; this is true Buddha Dharma. Certifying water through literature means you secretly prepare a bowl that your guru cannot see, and when you fill it with water and take it out, your guru will perform the Dharma right in front of you, and the water will immediately flow out from the bowl to you, just like the holy water from Avalokiteshvara's pure vase, which no worldly container can hold. It will flow out. Only with the holy water flowing out from the bowl can you wash away your karmic obstacles from many lifetimes; this is true Avalokiteshvara Dharma. What I practice is the true Buddha Dharma transmitted by the Great Dharma King Yang Er Yixi Nuo Bu, and the water has flowed out, so I am going to the Pure Land now." After finishing his teachings, Old Lay Practitioner Wang pushed the stool aside, sat cross-legged on the street, and passed away at that moment, demonstrating the greatness of the Buddha Dharma transmitted by the Great Dharma King regarding freedom from life and death. After the old practitioner passed away, according to Buddhist regulations, the body cannot be moved for seven days, so he sat solemnly in public for seven days and nights, perfectly upright, and was cremated at Baoguang Temple in Xin Du, producing thirteen solid relics. I also bought a photo of the relics and relic flowers from Old Lay Practitioner Wang Cheng E Fen's cremation, sold publicly at Baoguang Temple, for twenty yuan. I learned and saw actual footage that the Great Dharma King's disciples are all top-notch monks in the world, including top monks from Taiwan, mainland China, and Hong Kong, great living Buddhas, and top monks from the United States, all of whom take the Great Dharma King as their teacher. Many disciples are couples who achieve freedom from life and death together; some pass away while meditating with special hand signs, some shine brightly after passing, and some remain incorruptible, becoming flesh relics. Most remarkably, the Great Dharma King usually informs his disciples in advance when someone will pass away, allowing the Dharma masters to assist in their passing. When the masters receive the notification, the person is still alive, but upon arrival, they find the person has already passed. What does this concept mean? It can only illustrate the true essence of the great Buddha Dharma.

Respectfully Listening to the Silver Box, Celebrating the Encounter with True Buddha Dharma#

I consider myself not a shallow or ignorant person, never blindly worshiping or believing. I believe in the power of science and have benefited immensely from it over the years. However, just as we should not blindly believe in supernatural powers, we should not blindly deny them either, for science comes from humans, and the various shortcomings of humanity are evident. Therefore, when we carefully measure something with scientific standards but do not arrive at corresponding scientific conclusions, please do not rush to deny the thing itself; perhaps it is time to put down the ruler and think from a different angle or field. For example, Buddhism has existed in human history for thousands of years; its profound depth cannot be fully measured with common sense. Since the Buddha began teaching, countless scriptures have illuminated the profound insights of wise saints into the human world, not to mention the extraordinary sacred realms presented in this field over thousands of years, which are difficult to quantify. Today, the public is less engaged and more distanced from misunderstandings. Especially the sacred realms emerging from the "Victory Bath Buddha Dharma Assembly" and the extraordinary abilities of the Great Dharma King's disciples, who achieve liberation from life and death, are like a Zen stick striking you on the head, awakening you to the vast and mysterious realm beyond human knowledge. I am excited not to have missed this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I respectfully listened to the teachings from the silver box, moved that in this life, I have been fortunate to encounter the manifestation of true Buddha Dharma. Conversely, it also reminds us to be cautious of the chaotic phenomena of false Buddha Dharma, for if two people's strength cannot lift even 4,000 pounds, how can they discuss liberation from life and death? If a great master cannot even penetrate water through a cup, how can they represent the power of the holy lineage? The demonstration of theory and practice can illustrate that the extraordinary liberation of Buddhism exists and is inconceivable. (Text / La Mu)
