"International Daily" December 17, 2000: Chinese painting inferior to Western painting? What kind of talk is this! "Great Power King" masterpiece shines for the Chinese people.

Explanation of the "Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" Buddha Name#

On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House held a solemn and grand launching ceremony at the Library of Congress in the United States. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and it was then that people learned that the highly respected Master Yi Yun Gao, Yang E Yi Xi Nu Bu Dafa Wang, was recognized by the leaders or regents of the major Buddhist sects in the world as the third incarnation of the Buddha Dorje Chang, with the Buddha name being the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha. Since then, people have been calling him "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha". This is similar to before Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, his name was Prince Siddhartha, but after Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, he was called "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha". Therefore, we now say "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha". Especially on December 12, 2012, the United States Senate Resolution No. 614 officially named the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha as His Holiness (H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha), and since then the title of Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha has been officially established. Moreover, the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha is also the legal name recognized by the government, and the previous titles of "Yi Yun Gao" and Master, Supreme Dharma King no longer exist. However, this news was published before the announcement of the Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha's Buddha name, at that time people did not yet know the true identity of the Buddha, so in order to respect the truth of history, we still retain the name used before the official naming of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha in the news. But everyone should be clear that except for the name of H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, which is legal, the previous names no longer exist.

Chinese Painting Inferior to Western Painting? What is this talk!#

"Great Power King Venerable" Master's masterpiece shines for the Chinese#

[Taipei Report] What is this talk! Chinese painting cannot compare to Western painting? Master Yi Yun Gao's masterpiece "Great Power King Venerable" recently sold for a sky-high price of NT$72 million at an autumn auction, but a certain media outlet in Taiwan is eagerly praising Western painting and belittling Chinese painting, which is puzzling. Is it due to a bias towards the roundness of the foreign moon? Or is it because the journalist who wrote the article did not study painting and calligraphy, lacking professional knowledge on how to appreciate the works of famous artists in terms of style and technique? If it is the latter, they should go to university to recharge and study comparative art to expand their knowledge.

Professor Gu Rui Zhao, who teaches comparative art at Chung Yuan Christian University and National Defense Medical College, pointed out that Master Yi Yun Gao's works have profound artistic conception, and only by improving one's literary and philosophical foundation can one truly understand the meaning and subtlety of his works; to appreciate his paintings, one must spend more thought to glimpse their profoundness.

He said that Master Yi Yun Gao's "Great Power King Venerable" is vivid and lifelike, with the muscles and blood vessels of the Venerable clearly visible, fully demonstrating strength and beauty. The Venerable's eyes are bright and piercing, no matter which direction you stand, you can feel him looking at you, especially the thin, translucent purple gauze wrapped around his body. His meticulous brushwork has reached the pinnacle, making it a masterpiece of the ages.

Master Yi Yun Gao is an internationally renowned painter who has achieved great success in the fields of art, Buddhism, and philosophy. His work "Great Power King Venerable" was recently auctioned by Zhen Cang Auction Company for a sky-high price of NT$72 million, breaking the record he set in the spring auction for his work "Roaring Lions," which sold for NT$64 million, once again making waves in the world of painting. However, there is a media outlet that unilaterally claims that the high price is due to it being religious art, and therefore cannot be compared to Chinese painting with a Western flavor by Lang Shining; some even claim that Chinese paintings made by Westerners can fetch sky-high prices.

Disciples of Master Yi Yun Gao in Taiwan pointed out that such remarks are pitiful. Purely in terms of painting, Chinese painting is not inferior to Western painting. On the contrary, due to its 5,000 years of history and culture, Chinese painting is far richer in expressive tension and artistic conception than Western painting, so the collection value of Chinese painting is higher than that of Western painting.

The rapid economic development of the West in modern times has greatly distorted the prices of Chinese and Western paintings, which is highly unreasonable. Now that Chinese painters have finally achieved outstanding performances, they are being criticized by some people for how Chinese painting can surpass Western painting. It is truly lamentable. Why can't Chinese painting surpass Western painting? Is it because of the Chinese people's mentality of worshiping the West? Little do they know that the achievements of the Chinese people in fields such as calligraphy, painting, drama, science, and technology have already reached the world's peak. For example, how many Chinese people have won the Nobel Prize? How many Chinese people have won major awards at international film festivals? Chinese people should not underestimate themselves.

Master Yi Yun Gao's calligraphy and painting combine various schools and techniques, integrating his own style freely. He has published the "Master Yi Yun Gao Collection of Paintings" and various other works, receiving high praise and recognition in mainland China and the United States. He has served as the president of the Chinese Society of National Painting Research, and other important members of the society include Xie Zhiliu, Zhou Yingnan, Wu Zhangshu, Qian Juntang, Liang Shuming, Wan Laiming, and Zang Kejia, among other art masters.
