"Voice of Buddha" December 15, 2000: Professor Gu Ruizhao: Yi Yun Gao's paintings have profound artistic conception.

Explanation of the "Third Dijie Qiang Buddha" Buddha Name#

On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third Dijie Qiang Buddha" published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House held a solemn and grand launching ceremony at the Library of Congress in the United States. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and it was then that people learned that the highly respected Master Yi Yun Gao and Yang E Yi Xinuo Bu Dafawang, who had been respected by everyone, were recognized by the leaders or regents of the major Buddhist sects and the great living Buddhas of the world's Buddhism. The third incarnation of the Buddha Dijie Qiang Buddha, with the Buddha name as the Third Dijie Qiang Buddha, since then, people have been calling him "Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha". This is similar to the fact that before Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, his name was Prince Siddhartha, but after Shakyamuni Buddha became a Buddha, he was called "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha", so now we call him "Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha". Especially on December 12, 2012, the United States Senate Resolution No. 614 officially named the Third Dijie Qiang Buddha as His Holiness (H.H. Third Dijie Qiang Buddha). Since then, the title of Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha has been officially established. Moreover, the Third Dijie Qiang Buddha is also the name recognized by the government, and the previous names of "Yi Yun Gao" and the honorable titles of Master and Dafawang no longer exist. However, this news was published before the announcement of the Namo Third Dijie Qiang Buddha's Buddha name, at that time people did not yet know the true identity of the Buddha, so in order to respect the truth of history, we still retain the names used before the official recognition of the Third Dijie Qiang Buddha in the news. But everyone should be clear that except for the name of H.H. Third Dijie Qiang Buddha, which is legal, the names used before the official recognition no longer exist.

Professor Gu Ruizhao: Yi Yun Gao's Paintings Have Profound Artistic Conception#

Emphasizing the Extraordinary Classic with Rich Philosophical Connotation, One Must Appreciate It with Care to Understand Its Profoundness#

[Reporter Qiu Yuanzhi, Taipei] What kind of statement is this! Chinese painting is inferior to Western painting? Master Yi Yun Gao's painting "Great Power Venerable" recently sold for a sky-high price of 72 million New Taiwan dollars at an auction, but a certain media in Taiwan praised Western painting and suppressed Chinese painting. The art community and religious circles in Taiwan find it puzzling that such a mentality of comparing foreign things favorably is adopted.

Professor Gu Ruizhao, a professor in the doctoral program at Chung Yuan Christian University and the National Defense Medical College, compared art and pointed out that Master Yi Yun Gao's works have profound artistic conception. Only by deepening one's literary and philosophical foundation can one truly understand the connotation and subtlety of his works. To appreciate his paintings, one must put in more effort to glimpse their profundity.

Professor Gu Ruizhao said that if one can comprehend the true essence of life and nature that Master Yi Yun Gao has realized, and the atmosphere condensed in his paintings, then one has absorbed the techniques and messages implied in Master Yi Yun Gao's paintings. He said that the "Great Power Venerable" by Master Yi Yun Gao is vivid and lifelike, with the veins and blood vessels of the venerable clearly visible, fully demonstrating strength and beauty. The venerable's eyes are bright and piercing, no matter which direction you stand, you can feel him looking at you. Especially the thin purple gauze wrapped around his body, the meticulous brushwork has reached the pinnacle, making it a truly extraordinary classic.

Venerable Jueyu, the Minister of the Five Ming Art Department of the World Buddhist Association, said that Master Yi Yun Gao's paintings can vary in their wonderful techniques, which stems from the cultivation and realization of Buddhism, Buddhist studies, and Buddhist teachings. The application of his paintings comes from the wisdom of Prajna. Master Yi Yun Gao himself believes that besides technique, the most important thing is to look at the style and artistic conception.

Master Yi Yun Gao is an internationally renowned painter who has achieved great success in art, Buddhism, and philosophy. His work "Great Power Venerable" was recently auctioned by Zhen Cang Auction Company in the autumn auction, setting a new record of 72 million New Taiwan dollars, breaking the previous record of 64 million New Taiwan dollars set by his painting "Roaring Lions" in the spring auction, once again shaking the world of painting. However, some media unilaterally claimed that the high price was due to the fact that it is religious art, and that is why the price was so high. They compared his paintings to Chinese paintings with a Western flavor by Lang Shining. Some even claimed that Chinese paintings made by foreigners can sell for sky-high prices.

Purely in terms of painting, Chinese painting is not inferior to Western painting. On the contrary, due to its 5,000 years of history and culture, Chinese painting is far richer in expressive tension and artistic conception than Western painting. Therefore, the collection value of Chinese painting is higher than that of Western painting. It is only because of the rapid economic development of the West in modern times that the prices of Chinese and Western paintings have been greatly distorted, with Western paintings often surpassing Chinese paintings by tens or even thousands of times, which is extremely unreasonable.

Now that we finally have Master Yi Yun Gao, who has established the status of Chinese painting in the world of painting, and has brought glory to the Chinese people, some servile clowns have unilaterally criticized how Chinese painting can surpass Western painting. It is truly lamentable. Just think, why can't Chinese painting surpass Western painting? This is simply a result of the Chinese people's mentality of worshiping foreign things.
