"ETtoday News" March 12, 2003: Rhyme Sculpture Video Creates Shock Again, Master Yi Yun Gao Demonstrates the Power of "Artistic Virtue and Touching"

Explanation of the "Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" Buddha Name#

On April 3, 2008, the book "The Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha" published by the Global Buddhist Publishing House and the World Dharma Sound Publishing House held a solemn and grand launch ceremony at the Library of Congress in the United States. The Library of Congress officially collected this book, and it was then that people learned that the highly respected Master Yi Yun Gao, Yang Yi Yeshe Norbu Dafa Wang, was recognized by the leaders or regents of the major Buddhist sects in the world as the third incarnation of the Buddha Dorje Chang, with the Buddha name being the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha. Since then, people have referred to him as "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha". This is similar to how before Shakyamuni Buddha became enlightened, his name was Prince Siddhartha, but after Shakyamuni Buddha became enlightened, he was called "Namo Shakyamuni Buddha". Therefore, we now say "Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha". Especially on December 12, 2012, the United States Senate Resolution No. 614 officially named the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha as His Holiness (H.H. Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha), and since then, the title of Namo Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha has been officially established. Moreover, the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha is also the name recognized by the government. The previous names "Yi Yun Gao" and the honorable titles of Master and Dafa Wang no longer exist. However, this news was published before the official announcement of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha's Buddha name, and at that time people did not yet know the true identity of the Buddha. Therefore, in order to respect the truth of history, we still retain the names used before the official naming of the Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha in the news. But everyone should be clear that except for the name His Holiness Third Generation Dorje Chang Buddha, which is legal, the names used before the official naming no longer exist.

Yun Sculpture Video Creates Shock Again, Master Yi Yun Gao Demonstrates the Power of "Artistic Virtue and Compassion"#

Reported by Su Jingrong / Los Angeles

Using the technique of yun sculpture to surpass the natural beauty of carving and shaking the world of art, international master Yi Yun Gao's yun sculpture works once again shocked the United States on March 8. This includes members of the U.S. Congress, California legislators, Los Angeles County government, Hollywood City government, and the American Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, who presented awards and praised Master Yi Yun Gao for his achievements in art, philosophy, and science.

To recognize Master Yi Yun Gao's comprehensive achievements, on March 8, 2000, the California State Government declared it as Master Yi Yun Gao Day. The American Yi Yun Gao International Cultural Foundation organized a yun sculpture slideshow and video appreciation event. It attracted art and culture enthusiasts from Taiwan, mainland China, Northern California, Central California, and Southern California to attend the event, making the venue extremely crowded. Dozens of Buddhist monks, Christians, and Catholics gathered together to attend this art appreciation event, which was particularly eye-catching.

At the beginning of the event, Congressman Adam B. Schiff presented the Art, Philosophy, and Science Achievement Award to Master Yi Yun Gao, while Deputy Mayor of Hollywood Steve Martin presented the Hollywood Honorary Citizen Certificate and Ambassador-level City Key to Master Yi Yun Gao on behalf of Sandra Dong. State Senator Gloria Romero presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Master Yi Yun Gao, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich presented the Art, Philosophy, and Science Achievement Award to Master Yi Yun Gao, which was accepted by the President of the Foundation, Zhang Tianyou, on behalf of Master Yi Yun Gao. Master Yi Yun Gao himself did not attend the award ceremony.

Because Master Yi Yun Gao's works sculpt nature, the artistic conception goes beyond nature. Each piece is photographed from different angles, presenting different colors, structures, and artistic conceptions. It seems to bring people into the natural scenery of mountains and rivers, winning continuous praise from everyone. It is unbelievable that human artistic achievements can surpass this level.

Venerable Kuei Zhi, the abbot of Jue Hai Monastery in Tainan, Taiwan, analyzed Yun Gao's sculptures from the perspective of Buddhist teachings. He said that the reason why they are called yun sculpture is because the master used innovative techniques of realizing the emptiness of all phenomena to create artistic masterpieces that are both form and emptiness. This highlights the beauty of the non-conceptual nature of body and mind, which is the highest level of Buddhist teachings and a perfect accomplishment of skillful means. It has completed the unfinished accomplishment of skillful means in the human world since the time of the Buddha and the great master Lianhua Sheng. Therefore, it has made the greatest contribution to humanity.

Venerable Kuei Zhi analyzed the process of Yun Gao's artistic practice and pointed out that in the state of selflessness, there is no bondage of self-consciousness. The perfect network structure and sense of space in the works complement each other. It has achieved the artistic realm and the realm of Buddhism where form is emptiness and emptiness is form, leading to strong artistic charm and a sense of shock for the viewers. He emphasized that one should not casually overlook the shock that each work brings to people with the attitude of watching a regular movie, but should deeply contemplate the information revealed behind the works and the inspiration they provide.

Councilwoman Hua Sha Yang of Monterey Park expressed in her speech after the appreciation that she has been in contact with the American cultural and art circles for 33 years and has never seen such exquisite and unparalleled works of art like Master Yi Yun Gao's. She hopes that people across America will have the opportunity to appreciate Master Yi Yun Gao's sculptures.

Yang Longsheng, the president of the American Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Association, who was born in Singapore, said that he comes from a family of sculptors and traveled throughout China during the war, as well as visited Australia, Europe, and various parts of Asia to appreciate artworks from around the world. He carefully observed Yun Gao's sculptures and photos of his works, shaking his head in amazement and saying that he is already 88 years old this year but feels inferior to Master Yi Yun Gao. He believes that Master Yi Yun Gao's artistic achievements come entirely from the "artistic virtue and compassion" of the master.

In order to further introduce Master Yi Yun Gao's achievements in Buddhism, the Yi Yun Gao International Cultural Foundation, at the request of the audience, will hold a seminar on listening to the audio recordings of Master Yi Yun Gao's Buddhist teachings on March 15 (Saturday) at 7:30 pm at the foundation's address (707 W. Valley Blvd, #22, Alhambra, CA 91803, enter from the parking lot behind California International Bank). Friends who are interested in Buddhism are welcome to attend the lecture.
